4 Charity 2009 Mock Draft - 1st Round
1. Detroit
Lions

Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia: As tempted as the Lions are to
take another reciever (Crabtree), they opt for the "franchise"
QB. My prediction is that Stafford is
the second coming of Joey Harrington.
2. St. Louis
Rams

Jason Smith, OT, Baylor:
The Rams get the pick of the OT litter and Smith will be up to the
task of filling Orlando Pace's big shoes.
3. Kansas City
Chiefs

Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech: What better way to
compensate for an overrated quarterback than surrounding him with some
outstanding weapons on the outside.
Crabree instantly pairs w/ D Bowe & Gonzo to give the Chefs one of
the receiving corps in the league.
4. Seattle
Seahawks

Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest: Curry is widely regarded as
the top player in the draft and won't make it past the hawks. They could use an heir to Hasselback, but
Curry's too damn tempting here.
5. Cleveland
Browns

Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas: Undetered by their incredibly poor
record of drafting DL in the top 10, the Browns forge ahead with the
muscle-bound O-Sack-po. Can anyone say "looks like Tarzan on steroids,
plays like your MOM"!
6. Cincinnati
Bengals

Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia: The Bengals have to do something
to keep C Palmer upright, so they go w/ the best OT on the board. However, given their propensity for
drafting players most likely to have run-ins with the law, Raji is a strong
possiblity as well.
7. Oakland
Raiders

B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College: The Raiders certainly aren't
of dudes who likes the chronic, in fact, it probably endears Raji to Raider
Nation. Macklin could aslo be a
possibility since the good lord knows Javon Walker can't be counted on.
8. Jacksonville
Jaguars

Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss: Given the run on OT's,
Jacksonville panics and grabs Oher. In
their defense, they reallly do need help on the O-line.
9. Denver Broncos (projected
trade w/ Green Bay
Packers) -

Mark Sanchez, QB, Southern California: With the 49ers zeroing
in on Sanchez, Denver is forced to trade up to get their boy. With the Jets and Bucs also vying for this
spot, Denver overpays by giving up their #12 and #18 for the Pack #9, #41 and
a 3rd round pick. My guess is that
Orton starts the first half of next season before Sanchez comes in and makes
everyone forget Cutler.
10. San Francisco
49ers

Andre Smith, OT, Alabama: Smith is falling some due to being
suspended for the Sugar Bowl and flaking at the Combine. However, I'm
confident Mr Singeltary can straighten him out.
11. Buffalo
Bills

Brian Cushing, OLB, Southern California: With T Owens on
board, the Bills need to focus on D.
Cush gives them another playmaking linebacker.
12. Green Bay Packers (projected
trade w/ Denver
Broncos)

Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State: Jenkins is the prototype
corner for the GB defense and will have some time to learn from the best in
Harris and Woodson. There are some
questions about his speed, but Harris had the same questions. Jenkins is one tough SOB and will give the
Pack a lot of flexibility in the secondary.
13. Washington
Redskins

Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri: The Redskins owe their QB a
weapon in the draft after shopping him around the league. Besides, Snyder likes flashy picks.
14. New Orleans
Saints

Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State: The saints need a true hammer to
compliment Bush, and Wells is definitely a hammer.
15. Houston
Texans

Everette Brown, DE/OLB, Florida State: What can Brown do for
the Texans? Well, he can take some heat
off Mario Williams by bringing the thunder from the other side.
16. San Diego
Chargers

Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia: LT is probably in his last
season in SD, and this pick ensures a smooth transition upon his departure.
17. New York
Jets

Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State: Now that Lord Favre has
worked his magic on the Jets organization, an upgrade over Brett Ratliff,
Erik Ainge and Kellen Clemens is mighty necessary, to say the least. The Jets simply can't afford to wait if
they want to get a top QB.
18. Green Bay Packers (trade with
Denver Broncos originally via Chicago Bears)

Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU: Jackson's size and playmaking ability
make him a perfect fit at DE in the newly implemented 3-4 defense. The Pack is in great need of a 3-4 end and
are lucky to nab Jackson here. If
T-Jax is gone, don't be surprised to if Moreno or Wells fit here.
19. Tampa
Bay Buccaneers

Percy Harvin, WR, Florida: The Bucs have been desperate for
help at WR since Me-shawn was roaming the sidelines. Harvin kinda reminds me of Terry Glenn -
she's a pretty good WR when healthy!
20. Detroit Lions (from Dallas Cowboys)

Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC: Detroit needs a leader and an identity
on defense and looks to Rey Rey to fill the void. He's everything you want in the middle of a
defense and will help bring some credibility back to Motown.
21. Philadelphia
Eagles

Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut: The Eagles are always on the
lookout for outstanding CB's and Safety's.
Bulter is clearly the next best to Jenkins, in fact, many like him a
bit better.
22. Minnesota
Vikings

Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland: This guy is Tyrone
Williamson reincarnated and I can only hope the WR deprived Vikes make the
same mistake twice. If Percy Harvin is
here, I shutter to think about how dynamic their offense could be - so let's
hope he isn't!
23. New England Patriots

Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois:Davis is the type of soft, cover 2
corner the Pats prefer and will instantly start for the super bowl favorites.
24. Atlanta
Falcons

Eben Britton, OT, Arizona: Now that the Falcons have their
franchise QB, they need to protect him.
25. Miami
Dolphins

Clay Matthews III, OLB, Southern California: Mathews is a
great fit for the Dolphins system and is a no-brainer at this point in the
draft.
26. Baltimore
Ravens

Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, Penn State: The football gods shine on the Ravens
with Maybin falling to the 26th pick.
He's a solid replacement for Bart Scott and the beat goes on for the
Ravens D.
27. Indianapolis
Colts

William Beatty, OT, Connecticut: If the Colts Offense wants to continue to dominate the NFL, they need to keep the cupboard full with quality offensive lineman. Beatty is a bit of a project, but has a good upside.
28. Philadelphia Eagles (from Carolina Panthers)

Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State: The Eagles are elated
to see Pettigrew still on the board.
He's the consensus #1 TE and will give D McNabb another great
weapon. It's too bad McNabb is past
his prime.
29. New York
Giants

Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers: The Giants make a huge reach pick
here because they definitely need some help at the position.
30. Tennessee
Titans

Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss: He's not Albert Haynesworth, but
Jerry will certianly help soften the blow of his departure.
31. Arizona
Cardinals

Louis Delmas, FS, Western Michigan: The defending NFC champs
need help on the defensive sid of the ball and Delmas gives them a poor man's
Nick Collins - good luck with that!
32. Pittsburgh
Steelers

Larry English, DE/OLB, Northern Illinois: When you’re the
Super Bowl champs and didn't really lose anyone in free agency, you can sit
back and pick the best player available.
At this point in the draft, English is that guy.
